Another One Bites The Crust

Flashback!

Anyone remember Tab?  The soft drink?  It’s pretty vile, so I don’t blame you if you don’t.

Well, anyway, I saw it in the grocery store when I was shopping for tonight Big Orange Book dinner and I knew it’d pair perfectly.  Wait, that’s not right.  It was an awful pairing.  I just thought it was funny and I brought home a 6 pack.

Enough of my Tab ramblings.  On the menu for tonight was Rachael Ray’s Asparagus Penne Pasta from the Big Orange Book.

It was pretty good!  Not only was this dish incredibly easy (I made it while having a conversation on iChat!), but it’s CHEAP!  It really packs in the flavor with few ingredients and can feed an army.  My family and I agreed that this creamy, hearty pasta dish has the potential to fall into our go-to recipe rotation.  My favorite part of the meal- MUSTARD!  The sauce calls for dijon mustard and I adore that stuff.

There wasn’t much veganization to be done to this recipe.  It is one of Rachael’s vegetarian recipes.  The only things I had to switch were the usual dairy suspects- milk and butter to their non-dairy equivalents.

Another success!  I’m going to suck down the rest of my 60’s soft drink and finish my pasta.  Goodnight!

I’ve had that drink! Except it wasn’t soda..it was an energy drink. After the first sip it was too gross to even finish!

That pasta looks so creamy and delicious! I love dijon as well, it makes everything better!

I love this whole cooking your way through a cookbook. It’s so fun – and makes me want to pick up a copy of said cookbook. Or at least break out the Rachel Ray cookbook that I own and work my way through that :)

Haha, my first introduction to Tab was through the Austin Powers movies. There’s a vending machine at my local grocery store that still sells it, and I tried it once–not a fan!
That pasta looks amazing! You’re making me want that cookbook more and more every day!

that pasta dish looks fab… you’re inspiring me to work my way through the mountain of cookbooks I have that have never been used

Thanks for re-inspiring me to haul out my Big Orange Book. I bought it, I leafed through it, then I never used it!

I saw this recipe last night but opted to make Chicken & Biscuit instead (which you could do minus the chicken) but now I’ll make sure to flag this one for future use!

That is what usually happens to my cookbooks! When I get sick of this one, I think I’m going to force myself to cook a couple recipes from every cookbook I have before I allow myself to buy a new one. Maybe!
