NYC: Part Two
20 Sep
After Erica and I’s raw food feast, we headed back to her house and had a sleepover party our style- checking out our latest foodie photos! It was a perfect day!
The next day we had grand plans for more delicious food and fun. After breakfast, we hung around her house until we were ready to head into the city. What was our first stop? One Lucky Duck, of course!

I started lunch with the S&M Salad. I’ve heard from numerous bloggers that it’s awesome and I wanted to see what it was all about. Believe the hype! It’s so tasty! The simple flavour combination is fabulous! I can’t wait to recreate it at home.

Erica chose this lovely sushi platter. I snagged a piece to try- delicious, just as I thought it would be!
We quickly finished our first course so we could get on with the next- dessert! We snatched up these two cookies to pair with something we’d been looking forward to since the day before..

Raw Oh-reo Ice Cream! I have never had creamier, more satisfying ice cream in my life! It was rich, but not overly so. I am in awe of this tasty treat.
After lunch we headed to a couple bookstores in Long Island to look for some vegan cookbooks. We found them, only after I had spilled my iced green tea all over the bookstore and myself! What can I say? I had to leave my mark on Long Island.
We were super anxious to get back into the city for dinner at Pure Food and Wine again! I was so in love with Pure and I had to try more of it.

The appetizer special sounded amazing, so I decided to go with that to start, while Erica decided upon her O.L.D. favorite, Caesar Salad.

Delicious! My appetizer was zucchini noodles smothered in a rich, creamy basil sauce. I need to recreate this at home. It was out of this world! Erica’s caesar salad was also incredible. It was drizzled with an intriguing chocolate balsamic sauce that really put it over the top!

It was an extremely tough decision, but I decided to go with the Raw Sweet Corn Enchiladas. The dish was good, but unfortunately it was not my favorite. It was quite a beauty, though! I am a sucker for gorgeous plating.

The staff at Pure Food and Wine also presented us with this Raw Tortilla Wrap, on the house! I gobbled it up. Amazing!! I think it was gaucamole in the middle, and it was GOOD!

Erica chose these adorable Pizzettes for her meal. They are seriously cute and definitely pack in the flavour! I wish I remembered what each pizzette had on them.
Once again, thank you to Sarma and Pure Food and Wine for an outstanding evening! I can’t thank you enough!
I skipped dessert at Pure to save room for Lula’s! Erica and I sadly parted ways and I met up with Alyssa at my favorite vegan ice cream shop. It was so awesome to meet Alyssa! I love her blog and photography.

I ordered the Cake Batter Soft Serve Sundae! It was amazing! I love Lula’s. We sat around and chatted while eating our ice cream for quite some time. I had a great time! I hope that I can meet up with her again next time I’m in the city. You rule, Alyssa!
After wandering around the city with Alyssa, I headed back to Grand Central to take the train back to New York. It was sad to leave!
I slept like a log when I got back. I needed my rest so that I could spend all day baking with my girl, Karli! A couple of Alex’s friends/coworkers from Stop & Shop organized a bake sale to raise money for him. For those who don’t know, Alex is my friend who was hit by a drunk driver when he was coming home from work.
So, bake we did! We made tons and tons of cupcakes, brownies, and cookies!

We were totally obsessed with the frosting colors. They came out so pretty. Karli and I were like proud mommies. I was feeling quite ill yesterday so I didn’t say at the bake sale long, but it was a success! They raised around $2000 dollars on that day alone! Wow!
This morning I woke up ready to bake some more for the second day of Alex’s bake sale. I went with a baked doughnut recipe!

These little guys are so adorable! I cannot wait to make them again.
Along with the doughnuts, I whipped up a batch of Dreena Burtons’s Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies. These cookies are always crowd pleasers, so I knew they’d be great at the bake sale.

When I had dropped the baked goods off, the bake sale was the place to be! It seems like they are doing awesome already. It makes me so happy to see all this money being raised for Alex. Jackie, you’re amazing for organizing this!
Anyway, I think I may go on a bike ride later and hopefully clean my room. Just need motivation for that second one..

Oh my gosh, now I actually want to try Pure Food and Wine, haha!!! A few paychecks in the future, I will definitely be checking it out. Your cookie photos are currently blowing my mind.
Wow, great post! Those zucchini noodles in that creamy sauce, mmmmmmmmmmmmm and the oreo ice cream. i def envy you! lucky duck and pure food are on my go to list next time i’m in NY!!
also, isn’t the vegan yum yum cookbook absolutely gorgeous and full of amazing recipes? i just got it and flipped through it and couldn’t believe my eyes. what a keeper. i tabbed like every page! hahah just a warning though, DON’T mention it on the PPK. Apparently the author had a dispute with Herbivore, and since PDX ppl and Isa are close with Herbivore, I guess there are some issues there. I think it’s ridiculous, and hate gossip/etc. but I posted about how beautiful the cookbook was and everyone attacked me and ganged up on me, and it was scary and sad and made me like the ppk a little less
Next time you are in NY we should meet-up!
I was curious about what happened so I checked it out, and it seems like a really messed up situation, but no one should have attacked you for it! Boooo.
I’ve had all of those One Lucky Duck dishes, so I know just how divine they are – holy yum!! And I love the other Pure Food & Wine features as well
Sundae at Lula with another friend + cupcakes + cookies + doughnuts = MORE holy yum.
that food looks amazing!! esp. the choco chip cookies!! oyyyyy!
How funny! I was looking for a donut recipe and just stumbled across this. We may make them, today!
The BEST ice cream you’ve ever had?! Wow, it must have been great. I’m an ice cream FREAK. That cake batter ice cream sounds awesome too. I had that flavor once at Coldstone and really loved it.
I seriously can’t get over you photography. You could take a picture of a piece of poo and make it look good!! That was a compliment…I swear. You’re so talented!
Wow absolutely love this day 2 recap! Sounds like you had the best time. Bookstores, baking, and good company? The best! I really love the sound of that vegan ice cream place…wow!
<3 love ya nicole
Those baked goods look spectacular! Great presentation, and I’m sure they tasted just as nice. I’m so impressed with how much money was raised. Keep it up – you’re doing such a great thing!
Next time I go to NY I’m going to this Lula’s place you speak of. I’m not vegan but my stomach can’t handle all the dairy in a milkshake. And that one you ordered sounds incredible.
I love being inspired by restaurant dishes and figuring out how to recreate them at home

Mmm, S&M salads are the BEST! I make them all the time at home
I can’t believe how much good food is in this post. I kept scrolling down and my mouth just dropped at all the lovely, tasty photos!
that is so awesome that the bake sale went well!
Also, that cake batter sundae looks AMAZING. I could eat one right now—who cares if it is only 10 a.m.? I need something to power me through my 2 afternoon classes today
Everything looks fantastic, but that picture of the donuts on the cooling rack looks like something out of a dream- absolutely beautiful.
Looooove Lula’s!! And your donuts look amazing! I’ve never ventured into donut baking before–but I’m determined to take the leap haha
Sarah
It’s super easy!! All you need is a doughnut pan!
AGH LULA’S IS SO GOOD. I need me some vegan soft-serve…
P.S. Your blog is beautiful!
Also, how hard is it to come across a donut pan? I haven’t had donuts since I went vegan.
I bought mine at a cute little specialty kitchen store in Connecticut. Try one of those or maybe Williams Sonoma or something like that.
They are quite easy to come by on the internet though!
Thanks for the sweet comment, Nicole! I hope you ward off your own little illness quickly! xo
So this post… um I have a problem with it…
It’s very serious…
There are way too many pictures of food that I want NOW. I mean, I kept inching closer to the screen trying to see if I could jump in (It didn’t work).
LOL. JK. But seriously I’m glad you got some good BFF/Foodie time! Totally deserved!
Holy delicious ice cream. Cake batter sounds like a great flavour. And look at all the baking of yours – if you lived in my area, I would have bought up a ton of your baking, especially when the proceeds are going to such a good cause. I really hope your friend is doing better.
Please post yr doughnut recipe! I’ve been looking for a good vegan BAKED doughnut recipe!
