3 Tips For Keeping Your Kitchen More Organized

Since your kitchen is the place where you not only prepare all of your food but in some cases where you eat your food too, it’s important to make sure that it’s up to par.  Its no fun trying to prepare meals in a place where you can’t find anything when you need to reach for a specific item, or when you are concerned about the conditions being sanitary.

An organized kitchen won’t just make cooking a lot easier, but it will ensure that you don’t get ill or have to deal with rodents or other critters potentially moving in.  The best way to make sure that you are satisfied with the organization of your kitchen is to apply the following tips.

Get Proper Shelving

Preparing your kitchen for the ultimate organization starts with sorting your items properly.  This means making sure that you have the right surfaces and compartments for putting your things away.  This way you can avoid a big pile of things that aren’t in any sort of order or system.

Ideally, you should have cupboards as well as shelves, and have them organized according to what categories they fit into.  Bread and grains in one area, baking supplies in another area, and your dishes and pans should be separate.

Make sure that you place it in cupboards which are close to where you will be using the items.  For example, it’s in your best interest to keep your spices next to your stove top rather than across the room.

Always Wash Your Dishes Right Away

One of the biggest reasons for a messy kitchen is a pile of dishes.  When you let them pile up you aren’t just making your kitchen look instantly dirty, but you’re setting yourself up for double, and sometimes even triple the work once you decide to get them done.

Try to get into the habit of never allowing your sink to have a single dish in it.  The only exception can be for dishes which have stubborn stains and food stuck to them.  In this case, you can leave them to soak for a few hours or overnight to avoid over-scrubbing.

Check Expiration Dates Once a Month

It can be easy to start to let your food pile on top of each other.  If you have a big family you may even find that you have multiple packages of the same item.  This can be an easy mistake when there are various people in a household doing the shopping.

In order to avoid food going to waste, try to keep your cupboards clear.  This means checking expiration dates regularly and consuming things which are nearing their expiration.
